How important is Peyton Manning? Just ask Vegas.

The Colts quarterback is the only player in the National Football League that can affect his team's odds by more than a touchdown, according to RJ Bell of sports betting site Pregame.com. Bell reports the severity of the neck injury to Manning has dropped the Colts from 1-point favorites at Houston in Week 1 to a current 8.5-point underdog.

The future Hall of Famer is doubtful for the opener amid reports he might need a second surgery on his ailing neck.

It gets worse (or better, if you like Houston): At the start of the exhibition season, the Texans had a 36 percent chance of winning the AFC South. With Manning hurting, Houston is now given a 69 percent chance to take out the Colts, according to Bell.

Las Vegas is even more down on the Colts' Super Bowl odds. Indy was as low as 14 to 1 early in the preseason. But now Indy faces odds of 35 to 1 to win the big game in its home stadium come February 2012.
