Normally you have to wait 20 years to have your life story told in a documentary. Not if you're the captain of the Yankees.

Derek Jeter's hunt for his 3,000th hit will be featured on HBO Sports. Jeter entered play Tuesday night just six hits away from becoming the 28th big leaguer, but first in pinstripes to reach the magical number.

Bloomberg reports Major League Baseball Productions is producing the one-hour documentary that will be titled "Derek Jeter 3K."

Jeter has been stalked by camera crews at home and the ballpark as he sets his sights on history. Editors are searching hundreds of hours of film to put the special together.

It's a safe bet that HBO wouldn't be running a special about a Seattle Mariners, San Diego Padres or Toronto Blue Jays players chase for 3,000 hits.
