Sometimes you can do everything right and still not win. That's the life lesson some eighth-graders in Kansas just learned the hard way. Consider:
The Rock Creek Mustangs trail by one point with just seconds left in their Kansas Mid-East League tournament game against the Riley County Falcons.
Rock Creek inbounds the ball. One of its players drives toward the basket. He has a great angle for a bank shot. The ball hits the backboard. Then it hits the inside of the rim and lands on the flat spot between the rim and the backboard. And it just stops.
They might not appreciate it now, but the Mustangs just got themselves a story to tell for the rest of their lives.
