There are some unforgettable marriage proposals. And then there are some, well, proposals.

But hey, if you want to get married, you've got to make one at some point.

A Red Sox fan has taken a beating on the Internet this weekend for his nonchalant way of popping the question. The guy, apparently named CJ, proposed with the type of scoreboard sign that we've all probably seen at one point or another. At first his girlfriend doesn't see the message, so he has to point it out to her (awkward moment No. 1).

Then, once she gets the message, he takes the ring out of his pocket and hands it to her. He doesn't even get down on one knee. It's as if he's saying, "Here, take this" (awkward moment No. 2).

Here's the video, decide for yourself wether this guy deserves a chastising:

In the end, we can rag on this guy all we want, but his proposal got the job done. Sure, it didn't have a lot of frills, but not everyone has to create a viral video when they pop the question. CJ and his fiancee look happy, and that's all that counts, right?

But was the proposal that "gutsy," as the announcers suggest? Probably not. CJ did pay for the proposal on the video board, but that takes minimal effort. Plus even though the couple was surrounded by thousands of fans, not even the people sitting next to them knew what was going on.
