A base jump gone wrong nearly ended in disaster for an Austrian woman.

Maria Steinmayr, 22, was competing in the BASE jump Extreme World Championships in Spain recently when she leapt off the 525-foot-high roof of the Gran Hotel Bali in Benidorm. Steinmayr's parachute opened the wrong way, causing her to crash into the side of the 52-story hotel.

Then, according to the New York Daily News, Steinmayr dropped to the ground at 62 mph. She smashed into a 10th floor balcony, and fortunately the guests had left the glass door open. She banged on the door for help, and a couple down the hall came to her aid.
