If you think American football is brutal, at least those guys are wearing pads. The hits are just as hard in rugby, but the players are wearing little protection.
The dangers of the sport were on display this weekend in a match between Australian clubs South Sydney and St. George Illawarra. During the game, South Sydney fullback Greg Inglis leveled St. George Illawarra's Dean Young with a vicious shoulder charge. The hit knocked Young unconscious and led to a heavy concussion.
Making matters worse, the hit precipitated an all-out brawl, which took place around Young as he lay on the ground.
A truly ugly scene:
Inglis, known for his bone-crushing hits, likely will have to serve a suspension for knocking out Young.
