President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama have shown that they have chemistry. They can be romantic when they want to be.

Monday night was not one of those instances. During a timeout in the second quarter of Monday's exhibition contest between the United States and Brazil in Washington, D.C., the Obamas were shown on the arena's Kiss Cam. President Obama went in for a smooch, but got badly denied.

See for yourself:

The rejection drew loud boos from the audience. President Obama was given a chance to redeem himself in the fourth quarter, and this time he came through. You have to love how happy Obama's daughter, Malia, is to see her parents on the kiss cam. That's got to be one of the most joyful responses a teenager has ever shown after her parents kissed in front of thousands of people.

Perhaps Monday was not Obama's finest moment, but as Kobe Bryant explained after the game, there was no need to be ashamed.

"You know, PDA is not for everybody, you know what I mean?" Bryant said. "But he makes the important decisions, so it's all good."

Amen to that.
