If you thought it was weird when a cow beauty pageant was held in China a few weeks ago, wait until you get a load of this.

The inaugural International Goldfish Championship took place last weekend in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, with more than 3,000 fish competing in 12 categories for the title of "World Goldfish Queen". According to Ye Qichang, a member of the judging panel, the fish were judged on breed, body shape, swimming gesture, color and overall impression.

No winner has been announced, but there appears to be a frontrunner. A giant goldfish weighed in at 1.75 kg (3.9 pounds), and is drawing rave reviews.

"I have been raising goldfish for some 40 or 50 years, and this one is the biggest I have ever seen," Ye said. "Many factors such as breed and breeding method may affect their size. A goldfish cannot grow into that size if it suffers any hardship or major illness during the breeding. So it is a very rare one."

As bizarre as this beauty pageant may seem, at least it didn't have bikini-clad women mulling around the fish.
