USA Today Sports Kobe Bryant

If you're going by his 60-point final career performance, you know that Kobe Bryant doesn't like to do anything easily -- or quietly. So perhaps it's fitting that when he decided he wanted to do something nice for his wife, he skipped way past flowers and decided to learn piano.

And of course, he wouldn't treat her to a rendition of chopsticks or "Mary Had a Little Lamb." No, he'd have to learn Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" -- by ear.

According to Complex, that's exactly what Kobe did.

"Sitting down and taking lessons would be too easy," Bryant tells Complex. "So I taught myself by ear.

"If you just sit down and say, 'I'm going to learn this thing until I do,' there's not really much out there that you can't figure out eventually."

So Kobe put on headphones and listened to Beethoven on a loop until he got it right. And the finished product is on YouTube for your judgments:

Not half bad, all things considered.
