The Mets, losers of three straight, entered Thursday in a three-way tie with the Cardinals and Giants for the National League's two wild-card spots. Then Asdrubal Cabrera struck.
The Mets were trailing the Phillies 6-4 in the bottom of the ninth when Jose Reyes hit a tying two-run home run. Philadelphia was leading 8-6 in the bottom of the 11th, when Cabrera hit a walk-off three-run dinger. With the 9-8 win, the Mets pulled ahead of the Cardinals, who had the night off, and Giants, who still had a game to play versus the Padres on the West Coast at the time of the homer.
Call Cabrera the regular-season Jose Bautista.
