The year of the upset continues in college football

The #1-ranked LSU Tigers and #2 California both lost Saturday in major upsets, leaving the door to the national championship wide open and putting us past the halfway mark of the season without clear-cut favorites for the two best teams in the country. Like most fans, I enjoy seeing upsets, but this is getting ridiculous. It’s kind of like throwing several babies into a river and watching them bounce off of rocks downstream: entertaining at first, but eventually you just feel sorry for ‘em.

Besides, if we can’t trust the weekly rankings that the AP and USA Today provide us with, what can we trust? It’s like the world has been turned upside down. Black is now white and day is night. Jennifer Garner is the best actress in America and vodka doesn’t taste delicious when mixed with Dr. Pepper. My testicles are the size of grapes and I really, really respect women for their minds. We’re living in Bizarro World and the only cure is to have USC play Ohio State in the championship game to get everything back to normal.

So far this season, ten teams ranked in the Top 10 have lost to unranked teams, a feat previously thought to be about as likely as Mel Gibson celebrating Hanukkah. Well, mazel tov, Crazy Mel, because anything is possible this year.
